Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club forced defending champions and league leaders Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club to play out a 1-1 draw in a vital match of the Manyavar Bangladesh Premier Football League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city Wednesday, reports UNB.
Despite the day's draw, star-studded Sheikh Jamal DC comfortably maintained their top slot in the league table securing 20 points from 8 matches while Mohammedan SC remained at the 3rd slot with 14 points, also playing 8 matches.
After a barren first half in the day's match, midfielder Jewel Rana put Mohammedan SC ahead in the 53rd minute by a left footer from the left flank after beating Sheikh Jamal defenders in a one to one pass with Ismael Bangoura (1-0).
Haitian forward Leonel Preux neutralised the margin for Sheikh Jamal DC in the 57th minute by a placing shot when a grounder of his team-mate Sohel Rana, off Yamin Munna square pass, came his way from Mohammedan goalie Ashraful Haque Rana (1-1).
Earlier in the 12th minute, Mohammedan winger Jewel Rana tried his luck by a shot from about 20 yards but the ball went to the safe custody of Sheikh Jamal goalie Himel.
Mohammedan goalie Ashraful Haque Rana saved his castle brilliantly by punching away a right footer of Sheikh Jamal's Haitian midfielder Landing Darboe.
In the 69th minute, a header of Shakhawat Rony, off a cross of Haitian forward Lenoel Preux, travelled over the Mohammedans crosspiece.
Sheikh Jamal again came close to score in the 82nd minute but a 20-yarder of Haitian forward Wedson Anselme went in vain.
