Mt Chekigo renamed Nepal-BD Friendship Peak

Himalayan Peak Mt Chekigo (6257 metre) was formally renamed Nepal-Bangladesh Friendship Peak on October 25 after conquering the peak through a joint venture effort.
The teams of Bangla Mountaineering and Trekking Club (BMTC) and Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) jointly conquered the virgin Himalayan Peak Mt Chekigo.
Marking the triumphs, a flag in programme held at Cosmos Centre in the city Friday.
Nepal Counselor to the country and Deputy Chief of Mission Krishna Chandra Aryal, eminent writer Prof Syed Manzoorul Islam and chairman of Cosmos group Amanullah Khan were present in the programme.
Organisers said thirteen previous expeditions failed to conquer Mt Chekigo Peak but at last the 10-member teams of the two countries succeeded in reaching the peak on October 18. Later, it was renamed Nepal-Bangladesh Friendship Peak.
They said mountaineering is an unknown sport in the country but it has adventure to define history and heritage.
It is strange that the name of mountain after Bangladesh, they said hoping next they will see them as conquer of Mt Everest.
Greeting the brave mountaineers Krishna Chandra Aryal said: "This is a victory for both Bangladesh and Nepal. We'll stay beside you in future to bring bigger success."
Aryal encouraged new comers for joining the team and urged all mountaineers to be aware of climate change for making each step successful.
MA Mohit and Pemba Dorje Sherpa, team leader of Bangladesh and Nepal respectively, handed over the expedition-flag to the guests.
The other team members of BMTC, the first mountaineering club of the country, were Nishat Mazumder, Nur Mohammad, Sajal Khaled, Kazi Bahlul Maznu, Sadia Sultana Sompa and the members of NMA team were Mingma Gyalje Sherpa, Dawa Kipa Sherpa, Ningma Dorje Sherpa, Dawa Yangjum Sherpa, Sushmita Maskey, Nawang Phuti Sherpa.
Enam Al Haque, organiser of the programme, conducted the programme.
After the programme, a three-day photography exhibition on Mountaineering was inaugurated at the Cosmos Gallery.
