MTB wins Global Climate Partnership Award

Mutual Trust Bank Ltd (MTB) has won this year's Global Climate Partnership Award, according to a statement.
Chosen by external experts from 14 applications, the private commercial bank of Bangladesh stood out for its innovative approach to linking smallholder farmers with cost-effective electric vehicle (EV) solutions through accessible finance.
The 2023 award programme, sponsored by the technical assistance facility of the Global Climate Partnership Fund (GCPF), is intended to empower investees to develop innovative climate finance solutions and foster investable climate mitigation projects tailored to their respective markets.
Apart from the financial prize, the programme offered capacity-building benefits, including webinars, online resources, one-on-one coaching and training to stimulate creative thinking and support the development of innovative climate finance ideas.
Judith Brandsma, the jury chairperson, praised all 14 applications, with this year's winner presenting a highly innovative proposal to develop a financing scheme with a significant potential impact on climate change mitigation and the livelihoods of farmers in Bangladesh.
The jury chairperson said MTB's proposal was forward-looking and well-structured, with an actionable plan, detailed budget and clear execution.
Brandsma also noted that the pitch was delivered with enthusiasm and was convincing.
MTB Managing Director and CEO Syed Mahbubur Rahman said the award provides them with the funding needed to swiftly put their plan into action and collaborate with external stakeholders for success.
MTB will receive $50,000 to implement its award-winning climate finance concept. Insights into the vision were shared by Additional Managing Director and Chief Business Officer Md Khalid Mahmood Khan and his team.
