Muazzem Ali to enjoy junior minister’s status as High Commissioner

Syed Muazzem Ali, Bangladesh High Commissioner designate to India, will enjoy the status of a state minister once he takes over. The Cabinet Division has issued a notification this effect, said a Foreign Ministry media release on Wednesday. Muazzem Ali joined erstwhile Pakistan Foreign Service in 1968 through Central Superior Service Examination. On August 4, 1971, while working in the Pakistan Embassy in Washington DC, he declared his allegiance to the Bangladesh government in exile. Later, he set up the Embassy of independent Bangladesh in Washington. Meanwhile, Syed Muazzem Ali, a career diplomat, served as the Ambassador of Bangladesh in Bhutan, Iran and France. He also worked at Bangladesh missions in Washington, Warsaw, New Delhi and Jeddah in different capacities. He served as the Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh in 2001, according to UNB.
