Mufti Hannan on three-day remand

GOPALGANJ, July 18 (BSS): The Judicial Magistrate Court Sunday granted three-day police remand to chief of banned Islami militant outfit Harkat-Ul-Jehad Al-Islami (HUJI) Mufti Maulana Abdul Hannan in connection with Baniarchar Church bomb attack case.
A strong contingent of the police and RAB produced him before the Judge of Senior Judicial Magistrate Molla Saiful Islam with a prayer for granting 10-day remand to interrogate him in connection with the Baniarchar Church bomb case.
Inspector Akhteruzzaman of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Investigation Officer (IO) of the case submitted the remand prayer to the court. The court after hearing the statement of the prosecution side, granted three days remand for Mufti Hannan.
The law enforcing agencies also produced five other accused of the case as Sunday was fixed for recording the statements of prosecution witnesses of the case.
The other accused are: Moulana Obaidur Rahman, Shipon, Kamruzzaman, Ahad and Amir Khan. The court fixed the next date of the case on August 8 as no prosecution witnesses were present at the court at that time.
At least 10 people were killed and over 50 others injured in a bomb attack at the Baniarchar Church on June 3 in 2001 while several hundred devotees gathered there for weekly prayer.
