Mufti Hannan put on remand

HABIGANJ, Sept 17 (BSS): Investigation into the murder case of former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria took a new turn as a court here today granted one- day remand for the banned Islamist outfit Huji leader Mufti Abdul Hannan and shown arrested another militant Delwar Hossain Ripon.
Senior Judicial Magistrate of Habiganj Rokeya Akhter passed the order upon petitions filed by the investigation officer (IO) of the case, additional police super of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Meherunnesa.
The court allowed the investigation agency for one day to interrogate Mufti Hannan at the jail gate and shown arrested another Huji leader Ripon in the Kibria killing case. While another Huji leader Shaikh Farid was not produced before the court as he was in Dhaka.
Earlier on January 27, 2005, Kibria and four others were killed and many others injured in grenade attacks at a rally of Awami League at Baiddyerbazar in Habiganj district.
Meanwhile,UNB adds: Assistant Superintendent of CID Munshi Atique submitted charge-sheet against 10 BNP leaders and activists on March 19, 2005.
Later, CID Senior Assistant Superintendent Mohammad Rafiqul Islam submitted a supplementary charge-sheet accusing 14 people, including former state minister for home Lutfuzzaman Babar and Mufti Hannan, following the naraji petition filed by the plaintiff.
