Mugger in action killed in cop firing

A suspected snatcher was killed in police firing while mugging a rickshaw passenger of his belongings in Dhaka city on Sunday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Akash alias Ferdous, 30. Officer-in-charge of Wari Police Station Tapon Chandra Saha said a band of 3-4 criminals intercepted a rickshaw near ‘Obhishar Cinema Hall (movie house) in Wari around 4pm. As they tried to take away Tk78,000 from the rickshaw passenger, a police team patrolling the area rushed in hearing the victim’s screams and chased the muggers. Sensing danger, the snatchers entered a lane and threw crude bombs at cops. The law enforcers fired gunshots in self-defence, leaving Akash injured. With bullet wounds in his both knees, police took Akash to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where he died around 5pm due to excessive bleeding. Police recovered Tk 28,000 in cash and two crude bombs from the possession of Akash. However, his other accomplices managed to flee the scene, according to UNB.
