SAVAR, Nov 23 (bdnews24.com): A mugger was killed in an alleged shootout with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel in Ashulia early Tuesday.
RAB-4 Savar Camp commander Maj Sheikh Tarek Aziz said a group of three to four muggers had swooped on a man travelling by rickshaw from Bishmile to Gakulnagar around 1:15am.
A little beyond the military police check-post, the muggers had stopped the rickshaw and tried to rob the man.
Hearing the man's call for help, a RAB patrol team rushed to the spot. The muggers opened fire on them and RAB personnel retaliated, the RAB officer said.
A gunfight that erupted went on for more than half an hour when the rickshaw-puller and the man escaped from the scene. After half an hour the muggers retreated but one of them was killed in the shootout, according to RAB version.
RAB recovered a foreign-made revolver, one magazine, five rounds of bullets and one empty shell from the scene.
The recovered body of the unidentified mugger was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
