FE Report
Muggers snatched away Tk 0.1 million from a couple and kidnapped their five-year son from city's Kallyanpur area Sunday.
However, police arrested two alleged muggers who were driving away after robbing a couple at Kallyanpur, police said.
Witnesses said a team of five muggers on boarding a private car intercepted a couple -- Mosharraf and Sumi -- at about 1:30pm and picked up Mosharraf and his five-year son forcibly into the Corolla X before fleeing.
Then Sumi raised her voice and started chasing the car followed by people who were passing through the area at the time. At one stage of the hot chase, locals caught two of the criminals and beat them up heavily before handing them over to police.
On information, police and RAB personnel rushed to the spot and arrested them. They also recovered the car used in the mugging but failed to recover rest of the gang members who fled from the scene with Sumi's son, Sami.
Sumi told the FE that they came under the criminals' attack minutes after coming out from the jewelry shop in the area. "I went to the jewelry to collect Tk 0.1 million after mortgaging my gold ornaments for eid."
Sub-inspector of Sher-e-Banglanagar police station Rajiul said they are interrogating the detained criminals to recover the abducted boy and the mugged money. "I hope we'll be able to dispose of the matter soon," the police officer said.
He, however, denied of providing further information for the sake of investigation.
