FE Report
Muggers snatched away Tk 1.0 million from two cloth traders after stabbing them at Gulistan area in the city Tuesday night, police said.
Witnesses said three muggers intercepted the two traders Matiur Rahman and his bother-in-law Babul at Fulbaria bus stand while they were emerging from a market after collecting payments from their retail customers at about 9:45pm.
The gang started stabbing them indiscriminately as Babul, who carried the amount, refused to hand over the money to the muggers. The gang left the place with the money leaving the two traders injured.
The injured traders were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Later, a case was filed with Shahbagh police station in connection with the incident.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of the police station Jahangir Hossain, also the investigation officer of the case, told the FE that they managed to detain one Monir, 22, from the area soon after the incident.
"He is being interrogated," the SI said.
Meanwhile, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two fake currency traders from the city's Dhanmondi area Tuesday as they found a huge quantity of fake foreign currencies from their possession.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from RAB-4 unit conducted a drive at Road-7 in front of House-16 and detained Abbas Ali and Shariful Islam alias Jafar Sarder while they were trading in forged foreign currencies.
The law enforcers recovered the counterfeit foreign currencies worth Tk 0.6 million from their possession.
The elite force, later, handed them over to the police after lodging a case.
