Unidentified muggers snatched away Tk 3.0 million from employees of a distributor company of Akij Group in the capital's Mogbazar area Tuesday, police said.
Six employees of Juicy and Rizvi Corporations Ltd (JRCL) were also injured, as the miscreants opened fire and exploded several homemade bombs during the mugging at Dilu Road at about 10:25am. The incident triggered panic among the residents and people there.
The victims were identified as JRCL general manager Harun-or-Rashid, accounts officer Nur Mohammad, security guard Altaf Hossain, mechanic Mintu Ali Manik, and store
keeper Jahir. The identity of another victim could not be known immediately. They are undergoing treatment at Insaf Baraka Kidney and General Hospital.
When contacted, sub-inspector of Ramna Model Police Station A K Azad told the FE that the incident took place in front of the JRCL office at 375 Dilu Road, when the employees were heading towards Mogbazar branch of NCC (National Credit and Commerce) Bank to deposit the money.
Three muggers riding on a motorbike rushed to the spot, and started blasting cocktails one after another to create panic in the area. The snatchers also stabbed Altaf, and took away the money-loaded bag from him, he said. "We're yet to identify the muggers, but investigation is going on," he added.
