Muggers snatch Tk 3m from land-broker in city

FE Report | Monday, 18 August 2014

Miscreants took away a money-loaded bag after shooting a land-broker in the capital's Mirpur area Sunday afternoon, police said.
The victim, identified as Mojibur Rahman (43), was immediately taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). From there he was shifted to National Institute of Chest Disease and Hospital (NIDCH) for better treatment.
Citing the claims of the locals and family members, police said the snatched bag might have contained around Tk 3.0 million.
"We're not yet sure about the amount, and the matter is now under investigation," sub-inspector (SI) of Mirpur Police Station Syed Asaduzzaman told the FE.
Quoting the locals, the police officer said Mojibur Rahman along with another unknown young man aged around 25 years was moving towards Mirpur bus station on their way to Khilgaon.
When they reached at Mirpur University College at about 3:45pm, a group of three assailants riding on motorbike intercepted them and started firing on Mojibur to take away the bag.
Ahsan Habib, another SI of the same police station, who rushed to DMCH to inquire about the shooting incident, said a person named Delwar, aged around 25 years and identified as Mojibur's cousin, took the victim to the hospital.
"But he hurriedly disappears sensing my presence, and his mobile phone was also found switched off. We're taking Mojibur to NIDCH, as a bullet struck on the right side of his chest," he said, adding that Mojibur has an office at Khilgaon to trade lands and properties.
