Muggers stab cop, snatch gold ornaments from his wife

A gang of muggers swooped on a policeman and his wife, hacking the cop and taking away gold-made ornaments from his wife in Goran area in the city on Tuesday. The victims were identified as Nazrul Islam, 38, a constable of Chawkbazar Police Station, and his wife Mitu. Quoting Mitu, the officer-in-charge of Chawkbazar police station said the couple came under attack by a gang of muggers in Goran in Khilgaon on their way back home from the house of Nazrul’s brother at Chawkbazar in Old Dhaka around 6:15am. The hijackers snatched necklace and ring and ear rings from Mitu and chopped Nazrul indiscriminately with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. Hearing their scream for help local people rushed to the spot but the muggers managed to escape with booty before they arrived. They rescued the couple and whisked the constable to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, according to a news agency.
