SYLHET, Dec 21 (bdnews24.com): Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith Friday admitted that corruption was still plaguing the government at its top level.
He, however, claimed that 'the practice' had reduced to 'some extent' during the tenure of the Awami League-led incumbent government.
He was speaking, as the chief guest, at a programme organised by Awami League at a hotel in the city.
Muhith highlighted the 'corruption committed by the MPs and their relatives' during the five years of the previous BNP-led government.
He reiterated his claim that no corruption had taken place in the country's biggest infrastructure project, Padma bridge. "It was only a conspiracy to commit corruption but the government nipped it in the bud."
The minister said the next general elections would take place on schedule.
He also said the political parties demanding restoration of the non-party caretaker administration during the elections would come to a 'compromise' as the polls are nearing.
