Muhith against tradition of army role in national affairs

Sunday, 2 August 2009

Finance Minister AMA Muhith Saturday said the country should get out from what he called tradition of army intruding indiscriminately into various national affairs, reports UNB.
"We have to get out from this tradition," he said speaking at 'Bangladesh Sanglap' dialogue programme of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) at Bangabandhu International Convention Centre in Dhaka.
To underpin his view, the Finance Minister obliquely cited the situation of Pakistan (without mentioning the name). He said the indiscriminate poking of nose by the army totally destroyed the country.
"The country that we left behind is totally eaten up by the army for their intruding attitude," he told his audience at the meet.
The finance minister of the Awami League-led grand alliance government also supported the withdrawal of the army from the Chittagong Hill Tracts, saying that this pullout won't threaten the law-and-order situation as well as national security.
