Muhith attributes ambitious budget to recent achievements

Friday, 6 June 2014

Finance Minister AMA Muhith said Friday he prefers presenting ambitious national budgets because of the excellent achievements in recent fiscal years.
Responding to a query at a post-budget press conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city, Muhith said it is, in fact, a characteristic of the present government to formulate high ambitious budgets, according to a news agency.
“I’ve been presenting high ambitious budgets from the first year (2009)…and the achievement has been excellent every year with minor shortfalls,” he said adding, “There’s no problem being high ambitious if it can achieve success.”
Muhith also said it is good for the country if the government can implement a budget despite being ambitious.
Muhith, however, said the achievement of the budget for the fiscal 2013-14 (outgoing) will mark a fall a bit due to political instability that prevailed over several months in 2013.
The Finance Minister noted that one of the positive outcomes of formulating and implementing big national budgets is that the government’s spending capacity has doubled since 2009.
