Muhith confesses flaws in banking sector regulation
FE Report | Thursday, 28 December 2017
Finance Minister A M A Muhith said on Wednesday there are shortcomings in regulation of the banking sector in the country.
"Weaknesses are there regarding regulation of the banking sector, that is right," the finance minister told newsmen.
After emerging from a meeting of the cabinet committee on government purchase at Bangladesh Secretariat, Mr. Muhith said these responding to a question on Wednesday's siege programme.
Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) and some other left-leaning parties observed the programme in protest against corruptions and irregularities in the country's banking sector.
The finance minister, however, blasted CPB, saying: "They are doing nonsense. They have no existence except for a few leaders."
"They do these types of activities, like - red-flag processions etc, for the sake of their livelihood."
When his attention was drawn to the available information about the corruptions in the banking sector, Mr. Muhith said: "Questions can be raised about such issues. But staging of seize programmes against those is nothing but kids' play."
Earlier, CPB held a rally in front of Jatiyo Press Club and brought out a protest procession to lay seize Bangladesh Bank. But Police intercepted the rally when it reached Dainik Bangla crossing in the afternoon.
