Muhith eyes UN nod on middle income country in 2018

SYLHET, July 11, 2015 (BSS): Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith expressed hope that Bangladesh would get the United Nation's recognition as a middle-income country in 2018.
"The World Bank has recognised Bangladesh as a middle-income country. The UN will consider the issue too," he said talking to journalists after visiting the construction of the Minar of Sylhet Shahi Eidgah here.
The minister said basically the UN determines the grading of a country and it will hold its meeting in this connection in 2018.
The World Bank recognised Bangladesh as a middle income country as such a situation had been created, he said and expressed hope that the UN would consider the issue in its next meeting.
