Muhith promises support for creating women entrepreneurs

Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI) Sunday handed over a keynote paper on 'Empower 5000' to the Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith to seek government support to develop women entrepreneurs.
BWCCI has taken up a project to graduate 5,000 micro women entrepreneurs to SME level by 2020 through engaging them into diversified business sectors than mainstream with a view to making Bangladesh a middle- income country, the chamber said.
A 12 member BWCCI delegation headed by its President Selima Ahmad met the Finance Minister at his office to discuss issues in further promoting women entrepreneurship in Bangladesh.
The Finance Minister said the government will come forward to supporting the project after its launch.
He said the government is committed to implementing the women development policy.
In last one decade, women entrepreneurs in Bangladesh have developed themselves considerably and have made notable contribution in the national economy.
He said his ministry will continue to support initiatives that promote women entrepreneurship.
BWCCI President thanked the Minister for the continuation of Tk 1.0 billion as grant for women entrepreneurs as well as the announcement to extend the credit facilities to women entrepreneurs in the national budget 2014-15.
