Muktijoddha reach semis as group champions in Fed Cup Football

Sudanese striker James Moga struck twice as Muktijoddha Sangsad KC ensured a semifinal berth of the GrameenPhone Federation Cup Football with a 3-0 win over Brothers Union Club in the last group B match at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Sepoy Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in the city Saturday, reports UNB.
With the day's win, Muktijoddha Sangsad KC emerged group B champions with seven points while Brothers Union Club finished group runners-up to qualify for the semis with six points, both playing three matches.
In the semifinals on Tuesday (Oct 26), Muktijoddha Sangsad will meet group A runners-up Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club while group A champions Abahani Limited play group B runners-up Brothers Union Club. Both the semis will start at 5 pm at the same venue.
In the day's match, Moga scored two goals in the first half while Mithun netted the other goal for Muktijoddha SKC in the second half.
Moga scored the first goal for Muktijoddha Sangsad KC in the 31st minute from a penalty (1-0). Referee Abdul Hannan Miron awarded the spot kick when Titu's goal-bound shot was handled by Brothers Union defender Nahidul Islam in the danger zone.
Moga, who continued his superb form in the tournament, doubled the Muktijoddha Sangsad margin in the 36th minute with a right-footer from inside the danger zone after dodging past two defenders (2-0).
Mithun completed the winners' tally scoring a goal in the 70th minute with a placing shot from inside the danger zone after taking a minus from Nasir in the left wing (3-0).
The freedom fighters' team dominated the entire match and notched the deserving victory while the all-orange Gopibagh outfit failed to make any real attack.
