NILPHAMARI, Apr 25: Mulberry plants on the roadsides of Nilphamari district are disappearing gradually due to negligence of the personnel of the sericulture project. The project had been undertaken earlier by some NGOs in the district.
There is no silk industry entrepreneur in the district, sources said. If the government initiated production under cottage venture involving rural women, it would create employment opportunity for them and also reduce poverty in the region, they added.
This would also increase raw silk availability in the country as demand of natural silk is increasing in the global market.
