Mumbai massacre

Monday, 1 December 2008

THE shocking incidents at Mumbai should send a clear warning to our law enforcement agencies including the intelligence agencies. The violence, murder and mayhem were sickening at Mumbai. We in Bangladesh should not be complacent and must do whatever is needed to protect the citizens of our country.
What happened in Mumbai defies reason. What could those assassins have hoped to gained from killing innocent people of that city who have no hand in the suffering of anybody around the world, be it Palestine, Kosovo, Kashmir or Gujarat?
Many things are not clear as yet and these include the identity of those terrorists. They say that there were ten of them; nine have been killed by the Indian security personnel and one captured. Only if the transcript or at least the gist of what comes out of his interrogation, it will be revealed what the motive of this carnage was and who the real masterminds were. That those who took part in the savagery did not gain anything unless it was promise of heaven or money for their families should be apparent. The real players behind the operation must be found out and dealt with without pity.
Once again, our own government must take everything into account and keep a serious eye on our own fanatics who would in their warped minds believe that only killing of innocent people and destruction of property will usher in a better world.
