Mumtaz, Dalia, Mina clinch gold medals

Three female players of Bangladesh Ansar -- Mumtaz Pushpa, Dalia Akhter and Mina Akhter -- clinched gold medals in their respective weight categories of the City Bank Ltd 1st Youth (Under-20) and Victory Day Senior Judo Competition that began at the National Sports Council (NSC) Gymnasium in the city Wednesday, reports UNB.
In the women's 70 kg+ category, Mumtaz grabbed the gold medal while Jharna Akhter of VDP bagged the silver medal. Jamila Khatun Jhinuk (Bangladesh Ansar) and Rasheda (Bangladesh Police) jointly secured the bronze medal.
In the women's -63 kg category, Dalia won the gold, Komola Akhter, also from Bangladesh Ansar, bagged the silver while Hasnahena (VDP) and Afroza (Police) jointly took the bronze.
In the women's -52 kg category, Mina claimed the gold, Irene of Police got the silver while Shammi (Khulna DSA) and Shefali (Police) jointly collected the bronze. Earlier, in the afternoon, Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) COO and director Col. (retd) M Wali Ullah inaugurated the tournament as the chief guest.
Some 224 judokas, including 79 females, are competing in junior and senior groups of the three-day meet.
