Municipality chairman gets three years RI

NOAKHALI, Sept 27 (UNB): A special court here Thursday sentenced Senbagh Municipality Chairman Shah Alam Chowdhury to three years' rigorous imprisonment (RI) in a misappropriation case.
The court also fined Shah Alam, also general secretary of Senbagh thana BNP, Tk 5,000.00, in default, to suffer six months more in prison.
According to the prosecution, joint forces seized 795 pieces of corrugated iron (CI) sheets of government relief fund from an abandoned godown in the municipality area on February 21.
Later, they arrested Shah Alam from Senbagh area at same night and handed him over to Senbagh police station.
Police later filed a case against Shah Alam in this connection.
After examining records and witnesses, Judge Mohammad Qausar of District Special Judge's Court pronounced the judgement.
On July 29, the same court in another verdict sentenced Shah Alam to four years' rigorous imprisonment on charge of misappropriating another 23 pieces of CI sheets.
