Munshiganj launch capsize: 8 bodies recovered

Eight bodies were recovered from the Meghna River in Gozaria upazila here on Thursday afternoon after a launch capsized amid bad weather. Coast Guard members pulled out the eight bodies from the river soon after the accident. Three of the deceased were identified Mamal Hossain, 50, of Naria upazila of Shariatpur district, Tumpa Begum, 30 and Setar Begum, 50. Deputy Commissioner of Munshiganj Saiful Hasan said salvage ships ‘Durbar’ and ‘Pratya’ started from Narayanganj to join the rescue operation. The launch, ‘MV Miraj-4’ carrying over 200 passengers capsized near Gozaria Launch Ghat in the Meghna River in the district on Thursday afternoon while it was heading towards Sureshwar. Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan left Dhaka to visit the accident spot, according to UNB.
