Murray, Butorac suffer defeat

Sunday, 29 July 2007

Britain's Jamie Murray and partner Eric Butorac lost to the same doubles pair for the second week in a row at the Indianopolis Tennis Championships, reports BBC.
Murray and American Butorac were second seeds but lost 6-3 3-6 10-6 in the quarter-finals to American wildcards Scott Lipsky and David Martin.
Murray and Butorac were beaten in straight sets by Lipsky and Martin at last week's event in Los Angeles.
In the singles, defending champion James Blake reached the last eight.
Blake eased past Brazilian Ricardo Mello 6-4 6-2 and will now play fellow American Sam Querrey.
Querrey (19) survived two match points before upsetting fifth seed Ivo Karlovic 5-7 7-5 7-6.
"I don't think I've ever saved a match point on the ATP tour and won a match," said Querrey.
Japan's Kei Nishikori created a stir when he reached the quarter-finals with a 6-3 3-6 6-1 triumph over Michael Berrer of Germany.
The 17-year-old qualifier, who trains at Nick Bollettieri's academy in Florida, is through to his first ATP quarter-final before he has even turned professional.
"I can't believe it," said the teenager, a hitting partner of Roger Federer's at Wimbledon this year.
"I came here and I'm just playing good. It's unbelievable."
Meantime, Fifth seed Juan Monaco beat top seed Tommy Robredo 6-2 2-6 6-2 to secure a place in the semi-finals of the Austrian Open Friday.
World number seven Robredo began well, breaking Monaco early to go 2-1 up but then lost five games in a row as he struggled with Monaco's array of shots.
Robredo dominated the second set but another five-game winning streak put Monaco back in the driving seat.
The Spaniard tried to cling on but there was no time to salvage the match.
Monaco, who has already won two tournaments this season, said he deliberately took the fight to the Spaniard.
"I knew Robredo would be the favourite and I know he likes to fight so I tried to be aggressive and go to the net as often as possible," he said.
His semi-final opponent will be 11th seed Fernando Verdasco, who beat unseeded Argentine Sergio Roitman 7-6 3-6 6-3.
Defending champion Agustin Calleri earned his semi-final spot with a 7-6 6-1 win over Ecuador's Nicolas Lapentti.
He now faces 10th seed Potito Starace for a place in Sunday's final, after Starace beat fellow Italian Andreas Seppi 1-6 7-5 7-6.
