Murshedy elected BGMEA president

The newly-elected directors of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Monday unanimously elected Abdus Salam Murshedy as president and Nasir Uddin Chowdhury as first vice president of the country's apex apparel body for 2009-10.
Mr Murshedy is the managing director of Envoy Group and Mr Chowdhury is the managing director of Eastern Apparels Limited.
The directors also elected three other office bearers- Md. Safiul Islam (Mohiuddin), managing director of Onus Group as second vice president, Faruq Hasan, managing director of Giant Group as vice president and Md. Siddiqur Rahman, chairman of Sterling Group, as vice president (finance).
The election conducted by BGMEA election board was held at its office in the city.
The elected governing body would take over charges on March 12 in an annual general meeting, the press release added.
Over 2,500 garment manufacturers on February 24 elected 27 directors of the BGMEA.
