Bangladesh beat Pakistan by 10 wickets in the first Test match at Rawalpindi. Mushfiqur Rahim starred for the visitors with a sensational 191 in the first innings of the game which helped Bangladesh topple the Pakistan side. Speaking after the game, Rahim called the 191-run innings one of the finest in his playing career. He and Litton Das have donated their prize money to support flood victims in Bangladesh, report agencies.
The veteran batter who has three double centuries to his name, batted out of his skin to keep Bangladesh in the game. Pakistan had originally declared after scoring 448 runs for the loss of 6 wickets, thinking that they would dominate the visitors with the fast bowlers. That, however, did not happen owing to Mushfiqur's tremendous stands with Litton Das (56) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (77). Mushfiqur hit 22 boundaries and one six en route his 191 off 341 balls.
"This is one of my finest so far, because we haven't done that well overseas. All the players prepared well in Pakistan and back home as well. Before the Test series, there was a two and a months gap. All the players and management were there, the other white-ball players were playing in the World Cup. I'm thankful to the coaching staff and management," Mushfiqur said at the post match presentation ceremony.
The senior batter's performance helped Bangladesh get over a hundred-run lead in the first innings, after which Shakib and Mehidy combined to break the back of the Pakistan side. The spinners bagged 7 wickets between themselves to ensure Pakistan were doomed on the final day of the match.
Speaking after the game, Mushfiqur donated his prize money to the victims of flood in Bangladesh.
"I want to make an announcement, want to donate my prize money as there's been flood back in Bangladesh," the batter said. Recent flash floods in northeastern Bangladesh have claimed at least 18 lives and directly affected over 5 million people.
Wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das soon followed suit, making a similar announcement.
"We defeated Pakistan in a Test match for the first time, and I'm thrilled and proud to have contributed to this victory. However, due to the flood situation in our country, I can't fully enjoy this win; my heart remains with those back home," Litton shared on social media.
"I'm announcing that I will donate the prize money I received as the Energetic Player of the Match to the flood victims. To everyone back home, please come forward and help as much as you can. The greater the challenge, the stronger our unity. Bangladesh will not lose," he added.
