NAOGAON, Jan 11: Mustard cultivation has deceased in the district this season due to monsoon and unfavourable climate condition.
Sources at the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) said this season around 27,500 hectares of land have been brought under mustard farming in the district against the previous year's cultivation of 34,238 hectares.
One Ibrahim Khalil of Naogaon Sadar said last year he cultivated mustard on three bighas of land. But this year he cultivated the crop on 35 decimals of land for adverse weather condition.
Monojit Kumar Mallik, deputy director of Naogaon DAE, stated mustard cultivation has decreased in the district by several hundred hectares.
Farmers received mustard seeds and fertilizer as incentives, but all of them could not sow the seeds due to continuous rainfall and unfavorable atmosphere, he added.
