Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) Chairman Muzaffer Ahmad Wednesday asked the government to launch an education TV channel in order to elevate the level of understanding of students of the country.
"The country definitely needs an education-based TV channel as there is no provision for acquiring moral excellence in the existing academic curricula", Ahmad said at a seminar of teachers at the city's National Academy for Education and Development (NAEM).
Marking the World Teachers' Day, Bangladesh National Commission for UNESCO (BNCU), UNESCO Dhaka Office and NAEM jointly organised the seminar where country's eminent educationists, experts and teachers were present.
Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) AMM Safiullah, UNESCO Dhaka Office Representative Malama Meleisea and Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Chief Editor Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury, among others, spoke at the seminar with Additional Education Secretary Mozammel Haque in the chair.
The TIB chairman said the teachers, also known as agents for change of the society, in most cases lacked professional commitment due to fact that they were being deprived of attractive salary and other facilities.
"The government can run the education channel by utilising the idle frequency of BTV and the studio of Bangladesh Open University (BOU)", Muzaffer Ahmad said.
