MWB won\\\'t include new post

In a major shift, the Minimum Wage Board (MWB) for garment workers decided in a meeting Wednesday not to introduce any fresh post in the existing wage structure.
Rather, the Board would recommend incorporating a particular sentence in the gazette to help resolve the existing post-related problems, sources said.
On January 15, MWB asked both the factory owners and labour representatives to submit separate lists of posts for incorporation in the wage structure.
The labour ministry, earlier this month, asked the Board to sit again with the stakeholders and submit its recommendations in this regard.
The latest move came following the allegation that some posts were not incorporated in the new wage structure, announced in November, triggering a fresh problem in fixing wage hike for the RMG workers.
The MWB members decided that it would recommend inclusion of the sentence - new posts could be incorporated in the appropriate grades, if any additional fresh post emerges in the related industry along side with the posts mentioned in the gazette - to resolve the problem.
The MWB meeting on Wednesday was presided over by its chairman Shahidullah Bakul, where other board members were also present.
Arshad Jamal Dipu, representative of the owners, said posts vary from factory to factory. Besides, fresh posts are also created from time to time, which is not necessary to include in the gazette.
"The factory authority will incorporate them accordingly, and there is no scope of creating problems," he added.
Sirajul Islam Rony, the workers' representative, said the sentence was in place in the Board's recommendations, which somehow was deleted.
If the sentence is incorporated, all problems related with the issue would be solved, he opined.
Both the representatives suggested publishing the gazette in Bangla and English.
A member of MWB said they would send their recommendations to the labour ministry shortly, and the ministry would decide the next step of action subsequently.
