My mother's arrest is plot to exclude her from politics: Joy

Tuesday, 17 July 2007

Sheikh Hasina's son Sajeev Wazed Joy, who lives in the USA, Monday said the arrest of his mother is nothing but a conspiracy to exclude her from politics, reports UNB.
Giving his reaction to a private TV channel on phone, he termed the arrest an "arranged drama" and said: "It's now clear that her arrest and the judgement were preplanned."
Joy said the Awami League activists would stage demonstrations all over the world protesting the arrest of Sheikh Hasina.
He further said that the party leaders and workers from home and abroad were contacting him on phone expressing their condemnation of the arrest.
Asked if the AL presidium members had contacted him, Joy said they were also calling him on the phone and expressed their solidarity to wage a greater movement against the arrest.
"All the leaders and activists of Awami League are now united except a few who are involved in corruption," he added.
Replying to a query what he plans to do against his mother's arrest, Joy said: "We'll try our best through the legal process. But I don't know whether we'll get justice since the court is being run under the instruction by the present caretaker government."
Asked about the reaction of Hasina's younger sister Sheikh Rehana, he said that he had talked to her on phone and she was quite upset.
Talking to bdnews24.com on phone from Washington, Joy said, "It's not an attack on my mother, it's an attack on Bangladesh's Independence."
"Enemies raised their heads once again as they did in 1971, but this time from within the country."
"Join us to fight the enemies. Our struggle is for the future of the country, our struggle is for democracy," he said.
"I am in Washington. I will do everything possible for my mother. I received too many phone calls. All expressed the same concern."
"Not only Bangladesh, the whole world is with us," Joy said .
