Myanmar Ambassador summoned again

As tension escalated along Bangladesh-Myanmar border following the firing by Myanmar border police personnel, Bangladesh on Saturday summoned again Myanmar Ambassador in Dhaka to register its protest. The Myanmar envoy in Dhaka, U Myo Myint Than, was summoned at the state guest house Padma around 10:30am. Tension escalated along the border with Myanmar after exchange of gunfire between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Myanmar’s Border Guard Police personnel for about 2 hours along Naikkhonchhari border in Bandarban district of Bangladesh on Friday afternoon. The tense situation has been created over the missing of Nayek Mizanur Rahman of BGB following an indiscriminate firing by the Myanmar border police on Tuesday morning. Earlier, on Thursday, Bangladesh protested the firing and detaining the BGB member by Myanmar Border Guard Police along the Bangladesh-Myanmar frontier and demanded his immediate release. The Myanmar envoy in Dhaka was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and handed over a note ‘verbale’ conveying Dhaka’s stance, a Foreign Ministry media note said.
