Myanmar border police entry to BD a new plot: BNP

FE REPORT | Thursday, 8 February 2024

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Wednesday called upon the government to examine whether allowing Myanmar border police to enter Bangladesh territory is a new conspiracy or not.
The party accused the government of diverting people's attention away from this issue like the ones it did on different occasions in the past.
BNP standing-committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said, "Bangladesh is now in a crossfire-like situation due to killings on the Bangladesh-India border and the ongoing conflict on the porous Myanmar border."
He said this at a press briefing hosted by the national standing committee at the party chairperson's Gulshan office in the capital.
Mr Roy raised his eyebrows whether the government with the support of foreign power was trying to create a situation to hide its own failure.
"The ruling Awami League has ignored the country's interests several times in the past just to remain in power," he continued.
"If this situation continues, there will be a disaster on the Bangladesh economy, diplomacy and other sectors… The government must take that responsibility."
Asked whether BNP has moved away from its ongoing anti-government movement, he replied: "The trends of movement never remain the same and it changes its courses on different times."
"The movement of BNP is ongoing. The trends of the anti-government movement will become more clear and visible shortly."
"The government, led by Sheikh Hasina, has been separated from the democratic world. Their (government) downfall is imminent," asserted Mr Roy.
"The fascist Hasina government remains in power just providing illegal economic and geopolitical advantages to India, China and Russia," he claimed.
"The election held on 07 January 2024 was farcical and dummy. The election didn't reflect people's aspiration and their voting rights. In the name of election, it was sheer deception with the countrymen just to hold on to power illegally by the Hasina regime."
"This struggle is in favour of democracy. This struggle is not only against Awami League. This struggle is against anti-people government by democratically minded people of Bangladesh."
BNP standing committee members Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan abd Selima Rahman, vice-chairmen Mohammad Shahajahan, Abdul Awal Mintoo, Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Dr AZM Jahid Hossain, BNP chairperson's adviser Dr Sirajuddin Ahmed and Abul Khair Bhuiyan, among others, were present.
