Myanmar people caught by CG at Teknaf

CHITTAGONG, Dec 24: The Coastguard (CG) members detained people of Myanmar along with some locals in Teknaf Upazila of Cox's Bazar. Officials said the detainees were trying to illegally enter Malaysia through St Martin's Island.
As many as 23 people were detained. 18 of them are illegal migrants from Myanmar while five others are Bangladeshis from Chakaria of Cox's Bazar and Patiya of Chittagong. The CG officials in Chittagong said their members at Shah Parir Dwip Camp stopped them in Badambania area of St Martin's Friday night.
Acting on a tip off, the CG men raided a boat and caught them. One Md Kamaluddin of Chakaria was taking them from Badambania in a bid to board the people on a trawler-in-waiting in the deep sea, they said. The detainees have been handed over to Teknaf police.
