Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) will return Nayek Abdur Razzak of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) within a couple of days as it has sent a letter to the BGB on Tuesday evening calling for a flag meeting in this regard.
Sources at the BGB headquarters said the BGP sent the letter to the commanding officer of BGB-42 battalion of Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar Tuesday, a news agency report said.
In the letter, the BGP gave the list of its delegation members to represent at the flag meeting and also sought a list of BGB team.
Contacted, BGB director general Maj Gen Aziz Ahmed confirmed the BGP’s letter, saying the border force of Myanmar sought the list of Bangladesh delegation to hold a flag meeting over Nayek Razzak’s handover.
A delegation of 4-5 members of BGB, led by the Teknaf commanding officer, will attend the flag meeting to be held in a Myanmar territory opposite to Teknaf, the DG BGB said.
He, however, did not disclose the date of the flag meeting, saying it will be held within a couple days.
On June 17, BGP opened fire on a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) patrol boat in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar district. BGB sepoy Biplob Kumar suffered bullet wounds in the firing.
Later, the BGP men took away Abdur Razzak. However, the Myanmar authorities are yet to return him.
