Myanmar to hand over 150 Bangladeshis rescued in sea
Monday, 8 June 2015
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officials are going to take back 150 Bangladesh nationals from Myanmar who were found floating in Andaman Sea with Myanmar’s Rohingya. On May 21, Myanmar’s navy rescued 208 migrants from a large wooden boat (trawler) and claimed that about 200 people in the boat were Bangladesh nationals. A flag meeting was held in Ghumdhum of Myanmar and the Myanmar authorities handed over a list of 200 that they claimed to be as Bangladesh nationals. Following the claim of Myanmar authorities, an 11-member delegation of Bangladesh was scheduled to visit Myanmar. However, the team did not make the tour as Myanmar formally sent a list telling about 200 were Bangladeshi men in the boat. But the list was misleading and incomplete. Later, the BGB authorities took a step to verify the claim made by Myanmar. A BGB team checked the list provided by the Myanmar authorities and identified 150 as Bangladesh citizens from the list of 200 migrants. After sorting out the list the Bangladesh authorities agreed to take back the 150 Bangladeshis. Myanmar’s Border Guard Police is scheduled to hand over the 150 Bangladeshis at Myanmar`s Dhekibunia border point on Monday, according to a news agency.
