CHITTAGONG, June 19: Nagorik Committee that nominated ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury to the mayoral post in the CCC polls alleged that Mr Chowdhury was defeated under a conspiracy designed by the Election Commission (EC) and a quarter in the administration.
Major (retd) Emdadul Islam, member-secretary of the Committee, made the allegation in a statement Friday night and demanded fair investigation into the official declaration of the result.
He alleged that the EC did not pay heed to their allegations against Manjur Alam who illegally used gas and electricity in his business establishment.
The EC did not take any action against those who circulated leaflets containing unfair remarks about Mr Mohiuddin and were caught red-handed while carrying cash for voters, he alleged.
Mr Emdad further alleged that Returning Officer Jesmin Tuli was silent when several hundred supporters of 'pineapple' launched attack on the police and RAB personnel at the gate of the control room and set fire to two motorcycles of the law enforcers and vandalised several other vehicles used by the police and the RAB.
He said that Manju's chief election agent Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury instigated his supporters to take recourse to terrorist activities by announcing unofficial results of 60 polling centres.
