Nagorik Samaj warns of risks, if initiative fails

FE Report | Sunday, 15 February 2015

Former election commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Sakhawat Hossain said on Saturday Independence and sovereignty of the country might be in danger, if the initiatives taken by eminent citizens to resolve the ongoing political crisis fail.
"There will be a disastrous situation, if the proposals given by the Nagorik Samaj (civil society members) for resolving the ongoing political deadlock are denied," he said.
He was speaking at a rally in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh in the capital.
Citizens for Good Governance (SUJAN) organised the programme.
Mr Hossain said the citizens of the country came forward, when the politicians seemed to have failed to resolve the ongoing political crisis.
The government and the BNP should welcome their (citizens) initiatives and reach a consensus. Otherwise, the Independence and sovereignty of the country might be in danger, he said.
Central Secretary of SUJAN Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar said many innocent people who had no links with politics were being killed in the country in the name of politics.
"We want an immediate solution to the present situation. Holding a dialogue is urgent and in this case the government should play the key role," he said.
Former adviser to the caretaker government M Hafizuddin and executive member of SUJAN Dr Hamida Hossain, among others, were present.
