Nahid for increasing social awareness against stalking

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid underscored the need for increasing social awareness against Eve teasing alongside enacting an anti-stalking law, reports BSS.
He was presiding over an inter-ministerial meeting on framing a time-befitting law against stalking at his ministry Sunday.
State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, Home Secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikdar, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Secretary M Shahidul Haque and other officials concerned were present at the meeting.
Nahid described stalking as a social epidemic and said a tougher anti-stalking law could play a significant role in checking it.
It was decided in the meeting that section 10 of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act-2003 would be revised in cooperation with other concerned ministries as part of the government's steps to stop stalking.
The meeting stressed the need for expediting investigations into killings due to stalking in Natore and Faridpur.
Another bdnews24.com. report adds: Mobile courts in Dhaka and Rajbari have punished three persons, including a teacher, for harassing women.
Magistrate Al-Amin's mobile court in the city's Jurain area sentenced Nazrul Islam (48), a teacher of Alor Mela Ideal School in the area, to six months in prison Saturday evening for sexually harassing two of his female students.
The magistrate told the news agency that the two victims, during the drive against Eve teasing in the school, complained that Nazrul sexually harassed them several times before.
Following that, the court went to the school in the evening during an extra coaching period and punished the teacher.
In Rajbari, acting Magistrate Syed Ashraful Islam sentenced 'Mojaheed' (19), and his nephew 'Imran' (15), to three days in prison and fined them Tk 1,000 for harassing women.
Islam said the punished persons, residents of Parnarayan village under Jashai Union of Pangsha Upazila, were caught red-handed while harassing women in front of Rajbari Ideal Women's College around 2pm Saturday.
He also said Mojaheed is the son of Jashai Union Parishad Chairman Chand Ali.
