Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Sunday said he was surprised to find some ‘wrong’ statements in the budget speech of Finance Minister AMA Muhith on education sector and criticised him for making less allocation for the sector for the coming fiscal year.
He asked all to look at the page number 11 of the budget speech of the Finance Minister where there are some wrong statements about the education sector.
On the page number 11 of the budget speech, Finance Minister AMA Muhith said: "We have ensured almost 100 percent enrollment at the primary level by developing and expanding infrastructure, appointing adequate number of teachers, providing free books and bringing in managerial excellence in primary education administration.
At the same time, initiatives such as holding examinations with creative questions and hunting the best talents are contributing towards the expansion of quality education. The higher education sector has also received due attention. In the last five years, two engineering colleges have been set up along with nine new public universities.
We, however, have not made much progress at secondary level education for a long time. Firstly, many students drop out after primary education. Secondly, there is scarcity of qualified teachers at the secondary level. Thirdly, the quality of education is quite low at this level."
The Education Minister said the strong opponent of the present government will not make such statements. "Our Finance Minister is very much pro-education person …he might had been busy otherwise. So, others have written his speech," he said.
Nahid urged all to go through the page number 11 of the budget speech.
