Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid has said his ministry has included 1,022 non-government educational institutions in the monthly payment order (MPO) as per policy of the government maintaining all transparency.
Inclusion of new educational institutions in MPO created employment opportunity for over 13,000 teachers and employees, he said adding that the government would try to continue the process for spreading education.
Nahid was briefing journalists at the conference room of the ministry on recent inclusion of educational institutions in MPO Sunday, reports BSS.
The newly MPO included institutions have been asked to submit their papers with the education offices by May 20 for completing the process.
Refuting different complaints, the education minister said inclusion in MPO was done as per directives of the Prime Minister's Office following government rules.
He hoped that more educational institutions would get MPO after the next budget allocation.
Pointing to budget constraint, he said of valid 7,000 applications, only 1,022 secondary schools, colleges, madrasahs and technical institutions were included in MPO. "This means one in each seven got MPO", he added.
He said the budget allocation in the current fiscal for MPO was Taka 1.12 billion only. People had been suffering since long as MPO inclusion halted from 2004, he added.
About MPO inclusion process, Nahid said the ministry officials worked hard to complete the task. No middlemen were allowed in the process, he added.
Referring to discrimination in inclusion in MPO in the past, Nahid said Rajshahi division got 1,868 educational institutions included in MPO more than entitled, Khulna division 711 and Barisal division 583.
He said in Dhaka division 915 educational institutions, in Sylhet division 211 and in Chittagong division 425 more were entitled to get MPO.
