Nahid urges political parties to avoid hartal during exams

The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and its equivalent examinations began across the country Sunday, reports UNB.
This year, a total of 1,432,727 students under 10 educational boards, including one madrasah and one technical board, are appearing in the examinations from 27,489 institutions.
The examinations are being held in 2,942 centres across the country.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid visited Dhanmondi Government Boys' High School centre in the morning.
"All preparations have been taken to hold the examinations in a peaceful manner", he told journalists after visiting the centre.
He said necessary measures have been taken to prevent any incident of question paper leakage.
He said that the results will be published in 60 days.
Nahid also urged the political parties not to enforce any hartal during the examinations.
This year the number of total examinees has risen to 129,554 from previous year's 1,303,203.
Some 296 students are appearing in the examinations from seven overseas centres.
This year, the SSC examinations are being held under creative question papers except Bangla 2nd paper, English 1st and 2nd papers and Mathematics, the minister said.
The examinations were supposed to start on February 2, and the exams have been shifted to February 9 due to Biswa Ijtema.
The written examinations will end on March 13 as the practical exams are scheduled to begin on March 16.
