Chattogram Royals openers Mohammad Naim Sheikh and Adam Rossington once again took their team to a dominating victory in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), this time against Sylhet Titans at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet on Sunday.
After securing a 10-wicket victory against Dhaka Capitals in the ninth game of the tournament on Friday, Chattogram in Sunday's game romped to a nine-wicket win with Rossington's 73 off 53 balls and Md Naim's 52 off 37 balls. The match was the seventh game of BPL, rescheduled from Dec 30 in honour of Bangladesh's former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia, who had passed away on that day.
Winning the toss, Chattogram elected to field and surpassed struggling Sylhet's rather meagre total of 126 with a boundary at the last ball of the match-scoring 130 with 24 balls remaining.
Skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Pakistani all-rounder Mirza Baig bagged a pair of wickets each for Chattogram, while Shoriful Islam, Mukidul Islam and Aamer Jamal got a wicket each.
Southpaw Naim became the player of the match for smashing seven boundaries in an innings of 52 runs off 37 deliveries to a 115 run partnership with Rossington.
Sylhet quickly lost five wickets within 34 runs on the scoreboard playing 33 deliveries, and witnessed the fall of batters in almost every over. None of the batter except Afghan Azmatullah Omarzai managed to get more than 20 runs. The all-rounder who played at the tailend scored four boundaries to 44 facing 41 balls.
Sylhet skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz played a gamble to promote him to the opening spot but that didn't work as he was dismissed for 5.
Mahedi Hasan who conceded only 18 runs in his four overs then punched a killer blow by dismissing dangerman Hazratullah Zazai for 4.
Unable to gauge the pressure, created by Chattogram bowlers, the middle order fell like a pack of cards, leaving Sylhet 34-5.
The victory put Chattogram on top of the
point table with 6 points from four match, beating Rajshahi Warriors by net-run-rate at the moment.
