Nakugaon land port goes into operation Thursday

The much-awaited Nakugaon land port in Nalitabari upazila of Sherpur district is set to start its full-fledged operation on Thursday. Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan will inaugurate the operation of the land port. Officials here said the land port activities, including export-import between Bangladesh-India and immigration check-post activities, began in 1997at the initiative of local MP and Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury. In 2002, the government issued a gazette notification suspending all kinds of import activities except coal and stone through the land port, limiting the overall activities of the land port, according to a news agency.
