Naldanga UZ poll underway peacefully

Voting for the newly-formed Naldanga upazila (UZ) at Natore is going on peacefully on Monday. The polling began at 8:00am and will continue till 4:00pm without any break. The voter turnout was less in the morning due to rain but it was seen increasing as the day progressed. Meanwhile, police in an overnight drive arrested five people from different parts of the UZ for violating electoral code. Eight candidates are contesting the poll against three posts in the UZ. Of them, two are battling for the chairman post and four for vice chairman post while two are in the race for women vice chairman post. There are 92, 475 voters – 46320 males and 46425 females – who can exercise their franchise in 46 polling stations across the UZ. On May 8, the Election Commission announced the poll schedule for ZU, according to UNB.
