Narsingdi DAE eyes 0.21m tonnes of Boro yield

NARSINGDI, May 03 (BSS): Harvesting of Boro paddy has started in all the six upazilas of the district and it will get full momentum from the second week of May.
Official and farmers are expecting a bumper production of paddy in the district this season as the crop has grown excellent under favourable climate. But the recent storm and heavy rainfall hampered the harvesting of crops.
Deputy director of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Narsingdi, Latafat Hossain said the department has fixed a target of producing 2,15,000 tonnes of Boro rice from 54,800 hectares of land.
He added storm and heavy rainfall may hamper the target of Boro production. The farmers finally cultivated Boro on 55,600 hectares of land in the district. DAE provided the farmers seeds and fertilisers and other necessary equipment.
The official said the farmers of the district have already harvested about 20 per cent of Boro. The harvesting will continue till last week of May.
