Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim sought Wednesday cooperation of all concerned to create awareness among the people to reduce maternal mortality rate, reports BSS.
"The present government has been able to reduce maternal mortality rate. All, including doctors, teachers, journalists, intellectuals and religious leaders would have to come forward to bring the mortality rate down to zero," he said while inaugurating "Safe Maternity Fair" on the premises of Channel I in the city.
Health and Family Welfare Ministry and private television channel, Channel I, jointly organised the fair.
The minister said the country achieved MDG-4 under the leadership of Prime minister Sheikh Hasina despite many adversities.
"We have to work so that none has to die an immature death in the course of being a mother," Mohammad Nasim said.
The government is pledge-bound to ensure safe maternity in the country, he said and sought cooperation of all to fulfill this pledge.
