Nasim for declaring Nov 12 'National Disaster Day'

Former Home Minister and Awami League (AL) central leader Mohammad Nasim Friday called upon the government to declare November 12 as 'National Disaster Day' and evolve appropriate strategies to tackle the aftermaths of natural calamities, reports BSS.
He was addressing as the chief guest a pre-human chain rally held in front of the Jatiya Press Club in memory of over one million people who were washed away and had to embrace water burials in the devastating tidal bore that swept over the entire southern coastal region of the country on this day in 1970.
Jointly Organised by Jatiya Ganotantric League (JGL) and Dakkhin Bangla Jubo Kallyan Samity, the rally was also addressed, among others, by former minister and central AL leader AKM Jahangir Hossain, Dhaka City AL Publication and Publicity Secretary Abdul Haq Sabuj, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Managing Editor Azizul Islam Bhuyian, Bangabandhu Mancho Chairman Niaz Mohammad Khan, Awami ulema League president Maulana Elias Hossain Bin Helali, Bangabandhu Sanskritik Parishad General Secretary Abdul Hai Manik, Bangabandhu Sanskritik Parishad President Talukder Mohammad Jahangir and historian and former secretary Shiraj Uddin Ahmed.
Presided over by JGL president MA Jalil, the function was also addressed by JGL General Secretary Samir Ranjan Das, Joint Secretary Abdur Rashid Matubbar, AL leader ASM Mostafa Kamal, Bastuhara League General Secretary M Sadek, Muktijoddha Projanmo League President Saidur Rahman Chhoto, Organising Secretary Advocate Aminul Islam Chowdhury Humayun Kabir and women leaders Mrs Happy Begum and Sheikh Ruma.
