Health Minister Mohammad Nasim Thursday called upon BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to shun the path of violence, saying that foreign diplomats were well aware of involvement of her party and its ally Jamaat in violence, reports BSS.
He made the call while speaking at a joint meeting of professionals, freedom fighters, women organisers and Alem-Olamas at the party's Dhanmondi office in the city.
The meeting was held as part of taking preparations to make a success the March 7 rally of the party at Suhrawardy Udyan. Mohammad Nasim chaired the meeting.
"BNP-Jamaat alliance has already made ineffective hartal-blockade as a weapon of the movement as they are burning innocent people to death by enforcing strikes," said Nasim, also spokesperson of the 14-party alliance.
Replying to a query about the arrest of Khaleda Zia, he said, "Law enforcement agencies will decide when and how she (Khaleda Zia) will be arrested."
Among others, Awami League joint general secretaries Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Dr Dipu Moni, Organising Secretary Ahmed Hossain, Office Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, executive members Sujit Roy Nandi and Amiul Islam Amin were present.
Speaking at another preparatory meeting of Swechchasebak League at Bangabandhu Avenue, Nasim said, "The next general election will be held in due time under Sheikh Hasina in line with the constitution."
The minister advised Khaleda Zia to take preparations for the next general election, leaving the hope of holding dialogue. "We found no results of holding dialogue in 1991 and 1995. So, take preparations for the next polls."
